Here is a true classic of the modern classroom: KABOOM!

No, I’m not just making noise. KABOOM! is a popular education game for practicing fact fluency and is used in many classrooms today. Easy to set up and easy to play, this very fun game might just become a regular staple of your home learning. It can be adapted to many subjects and age levels-- and in my experience, most young learners love it. If both middle schoolers and 2nd graders enjoy it, it must be pretty special, right?

As for the topics that work with this game, the sky’s the limit! When teaching first grade, we used it for practicing letter identification, skip counting, sight words, counting syllables, and math facts. In older grades, I’ve used it for more advanced math facts, adding and subtracting time, place value, vocabulary, identifying fractions, and more. You can glue items to the popsicle sticks for identification, or attach and detach visuals with velcro if you’re feeling fancy. Whatever you need to memorize, KABOOM! is a playful way to go about it.

Let’s get started!
