This little poem is a traditional English-language nursery rhyme. It can be used in a classroom as a call and response to bring quiet or before a special story to set the mood.
Stories are very special and in order for us to make ourselves ready for them, it can help to call them in with a story or song. This is a wonderful poem to recite before a hearing, reading, or telling a story.

the less he spoke.

the more he heard.
